About MultiGen Living

The independent UK guide for families bringing generations together under one roof

Why This Site Exists

More UK families than ever are combining households: parents moving closer to their children, grandparents helping with childcare, adult children saving for a deposit. The information available to them is mostly sales material from suppliers with something to sell.

MultiGen Living exists to give families the independent version: what annexes really cost, when planning permission is genuinely needed, how council tax and funding actually work, and what separates a well-built annexe from an expensive mistake. When you're ready for quotes, we point you at suppliers suited to your project, and we're paid by referral, never by writing biased advice.

How We Work

Rules First, Sales Never

Every guide starts from the planning rules, building regulations and tax treatment, with sources linked, because those are what your project succeeds or fails on.

Honest About Variation

Councils differ, sites differ, families differ. Where the answer is "it depends on your council", we say so and tell you how to check, rather than pretending one answer fits everyone.

Transparent Referrals

When we connect you with a supplier and you go ahead, we may receive a referral fee. It never changes the price you pay, and it never changes what our guides say.

Not Regulated Advice

We explain how funding, tax and benefits interact so you can ask the right questions, but mortgages, equity release and tax planning need a regulated adviser, and we always say when that line is reached.

Thinking About an Annexe?
